Tips for Playing Poker Online

If you are a seasoned online poker player who has been playing with some success, reading this article will educate you on a few tips that can significantly impact your game. And, of course, if you are new to online poker, these tips will help you as well.

The anonymity of online poker enables players to play more than one or even several games of poker at the same time if they so choose. Many players think that by doing this they are increasing their chances of winning. The reality is, however, that they are not because their ability to concentrate is divided. Statistically, a player who makes an average of $15 an hour playing poker online does not increase his earnings to $30 an hour if he plays two games at once instead of just one. It just doesn't work that way. By playing only one game and staying focused on that hand, you have the advantage over players who "multi-task."

Online players should become well acquainted with the web site's interface to take advantage of all the features. Specifically, a player should always enable the "muck losing hands" and "auto-post blinds" buttons as a good strategy. If you have to walk away from the computer for any reason during an online hand, consider disenabling the "auto-post" button so that nothing happens while you are away from the screen.

Similarly, refrain from using the "in turn" button, which allows a player to act on a hand before it is his or her turn. If you lose your Internet connection and this button is enabled, you could be calling when you mean to be checking. Moreover, this button is viewed as the lazy player's button as is used by experienced players as a poker "tell." (Inexperienced players who have a good hand often will use this button not knowing that he is telling everyone what he is up to.) Use this button sparingly and it won't work against your play.
