Texas Hold'Em Poker Tips

It seems like nowadays, every one from your grandmother to your neighbor to your boss to your priest is playing Texas Hold'em poker online. If you are new to the game or are thinking about joining the club, here are some general tips for playing Hold'em online:

Don't make the common mistake of thinking you must play in every hand. Experienced poker players tend to play about 25 – 30 percent of the hands they are dealt. This strategy enables you to play aggressively when you have a good hand, which will push out those players who went in when they probably shouldn't have. In other words, playing aggressively when you have a good hand and "folding" when you have a weak hand is a better strategy than playing timidly at each hand. Other players will respect your strategy and see you as an experienced player.

In order to win, you will have to play aggressively at times. Some people shy away from aggressive play and instead think they can gain an advantage by making small moves here and there. Regardless of your playing style, Texas Hold'em is a game that forces players to be aggressive at least some of the time. The sooner you embrace this concept, the sooner you will be able to embrace the underlying essentials of Hold'em poker. When you have a good hand, you must go in and go in big. You must raise and re-raise in order to push out your opponent and take the pot.

Be aware that online poker has "tells," too. Online tells are not given away by facial twitches, nail biting, or foot tapping. Though they reveal themselves in other forms, online tells are just as significant as face to face tells. If an online poker player moves too quickly, chances are that he has a weak hand (or is new to the game). On the other hand, if a player takes his time with the hand, this is likely a sign that he has a good hand. Familiarizing yourself with online poker tells will give you an edge.
